MacKinnon Construction is proud to be the general contractor responsible for construction of the new Polaris Charter School on Manchester’s west side.  Located on the corner of Coolidge and Kelley Street in what was the old St Patricks School, it is now being renovated to house the new charter school.  Final plans are in the approval process and as soon as we get the approval we will be busy.  First day of school for the new students is sometime in the early part of September so as you can imagine it leaves little time to get a lot done.

The general layout of the classrooms will not change much but making all three levels accessible to all is the challenge. With 16 + feet between floors it has made finding the best and most affordable form of elevators difficult.  Bathroom layouts and locations have changed to meet the new ADA regulations.   The chosen method of construction at the time included plaster and lath and anyone who has worked with this material knows how much of a mess it is to work with.

The next few weeks for us and our sub contractors will be filled with long days and long weeks as we work to meet our deadline.
